Kevin Annett opening of mass graves and latest updates on Native Indian Church occupation
Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu issues threat to Occupy movement to disperse peacefully, and warns "illegitimate protestors" to depart
A Perplexed Note from Rev. Kevin Annett to Vancouver Top Cop Jim Chu, following his threats against Occupy Vancouver members
Dear Jim,
Somebody must be on your ass these days, Jim, and I don’t mean your political bosses, or the usual crowd of real estate sharks and drug lords who call the tune here in our beautiful city.
You seem to be losing it, frankly, Jim, now that you’ve started threatening to jail all the young kids who are giving peace a chance down at the art gallery: folks you even have started labeling as either “legitimate” or “illegitimate” protestors.
So, what makes a protest “legitimate”, in your weltanschung, Jim? I can hear the words “peaceful and orderly” forming on your lips. Well, I’ve been at Occupy Vancouver most of the days since it began, and I’ve seen nothing but peace, order, love and good will from the crowd of occupiers – including from those more strident militants whom you are now casting in such a shadowy and suspicious light.
As somebody once said, Jim, we don’t see the world the way it is, but the way we are; and so it’s kind of revealing that you’d use that curious designation of “legitimacy” to discern what’s up in the Occupy Vancouver camp. I say revealing, because many of us have come to view the Vancouver Police Department according to the same designation.
What makes a cop legitimate, Jim? Read my lips: he and she is a servant of the people, a protector of the innocent, and one who maintains the safety and well being of everybody.
By that definition, Jim, I haven’t run into a lot of legitimate cops in the downtown east side, where I do a lot of my community work. Most of the boys and girls in blue down there spend their time intimidating or clobbering homeless Indians or young prostitutes, if they’re not cruising around doing nothing.
I wouldn’t call that good police work, but it is an excellent way to maintain the kind of violence and crime needed to drive out local merchants and residents, and crash the property prices for the benefit of all those hungry, off shore real estate sharks who I’m sure you know nothing about.
And let’s not talk about your own effectiveness at tackling the drug scene, here in the drug capital of Canada. Years ago, in my first stint as a street minister along east Hastings, I noticed right away how drug dealing goes on openly and constantly on the very doorstep of the Vancouver Police department on Main street: a pattern that's never changed.
Later, when I learned how a lot of the Asian narcotics are unloaded directly off the false-hulled ships at Ballantyne Pier with the help of your own officers, I wised up pretty quickly to who and what the Vancouver cops are actually serving.
And as for all the missing aboriginal women, let’s not go there. You know very well the names of your officers who play the “Hooker Game” of drugging and raping women in our neighborhood. Two of your boys even made a bundle taking a bunch of native women on a one-way trip out to the Pickton serial killer farm, and a lot of us know the names of those dirty cops. But I’m sure you’ve never heard of that, either.
So anyway, Jim, where are all the legitimate Vancouver police?
Having attempted to be a genuine clergyman in a corrupt church, I personally know the fate of any good man or woman who tries to do an honest and effective job amidst criminals. In a word, we get shown the door because, to quote New York cop Frank Serpico, “The clean ones can never be trusted.”
I know the score, Jim, as you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be tolerated by your bosses. So I do understand why you see red when the Occupiers start questioning the power structure here in Sin City, and why you project your own guilt-ridden sense of personal illegitimacy onto them.
Hell, I’m a clergyman. I deal with guys like you all the time. What you need is a stint in a healing circle: say, a 12 step “Mediocrities Anonymous” group for wannabe legitimate cops, if you like.
I’d offer to help you set up such a group for all the men and women on your farce (sorry, I mean, force) who do indeed aspire to become real live police people someday. But my hands are full right now dealing with all the fear and violence your words are instilling among the Occupiers: those dreamers and lovers who are imagining a good and just world – even here in Vancouver.
You might consider joining us. But then, you'd lose your job.
Your call, Jim.
sincerely,
Kevin

Native people assaulted by Catholics as Vancouver cops stand by and watch:
Occupy the Vatican serves Eviction Notice against child raping church, as Canadian media distorts the event
Vancouver, Squamish sovereign territory
October 31, 2011:
Two dozen men and women from Occupy Vancouver and the Occupy the Vatican movement, most of them aboriginal, faced assaults and a human blockade from members of the Catholic Knights of Columbus yesterday outside Holy Rosary Cathedral, while trying to peacefully occupy it and enforce a legal eviction order against the Roman Catholic church for its murder of thousands of residential school children.
"I kept yelling to the police to help us but they just stood there at the church entrance and did nothing, even when the Knights of Columbus were shoving one man and making him fall right off the church steps" described a female member of Occupy Vancouver.
"It's like the cops were being private security for the church, and the Knights of Columbus were acting like police".
The planned occupation was called last week to bring attention to the Catholic church's illegal occupation of Squamish land, and their genocide of native children.
On Saturday, the action was temporarily postponed after two undercover operatives were exposed as attempting to incite violence at the church. Nevertheless, a group of native elders went to the church later and read the eviction notice to the police and catholics barring the church entrance.
Aboriginal woman and member of Occupy Vancouver declares Chief Kiapilano's March, 2008 Banning and Eviction order against the Catholic church
The Vancouver media distorted the Sunday action to make it seem that Occupy Vancouver disavowed the action, which is not true. No media reported the exposure of the undercover operatives or the fact that over a hundred Occupy Vancouver members have merely postponed their protest to next Sunday.
One of the protest organizers and a legal agent for Squamish elder Kiapilano, Kevin Annett (Eagle Strong Voice), commented today,
"There's a mayoral election on in Vancouver these days, and every politician is trying to win votes by calling for the Occupy camp to be shut down. What better scare tactic to inflame the citizenry than claiming that a bunch of wild Indians from the camp are storming a church?" commented Kevin Annett today.
Annett has been authorized by Kiapilano to enforce his 2008 Eviction Order against the Catholic church in Vancouver.
"The occupation of these churches will continue, peacefully, and with increasing support from many people. The eyes of the world or on us. We will return next Sunday" announced Annett.
Occupy the Vatican groups across Canada and the world have declared their plans to take over Catholic churches in their communities.
A Press Statement and Ultimatum addressed to the Pope and the Vancouver Catholic Archdiocese will be issued later today.
An Open Letter and Ultimatum to John Michael Miller, Catholic Archbishop in “Vancouver, Canada” on occupied sovereign Squamish territory
November 1, 2011
Dear John Michael,
I have tried speaking to you before now, but you haven’t answered my calls concerning the location of the many children who died under the legal care of your church in the Christian internment camps inaccurately called “Indian residential schools”.
Now that survivors of those camps have tried to occupy your Cathedral last Sunday, we seem to have won your attention. So please take careful note of what I am about to say to you, which I communicate as a delegated legal agent of the sovereign siyam of the Squamish people, Kiyapilano, whose land you illegally occupy and who formally evicted you from it three years ago.
As of this Sunday, November 6, our people and broader international movement will continue to peacefully reclaim the buildings of your church which lie on Squamish sovereign land, and on other nations, through direct occupation of the churches and offices of your corporation known as the Roman Catholic church. We will do so indefinitely until you and your corporation agree to do the following:
1. Vacate the premises of these churches and buildings so that they can be opened as permanent sanctuaries for the homeless and the poor, as Christ himself commands,
2. Publicly identify the location of the buried or incinerated remains of all the children who died in Catholic Indian residential schools and hospitals, and repatriate those remains to their families for a proper burial at the expense of your corporation, and
3. Publicly surrender all the written and other evidence relating to these deaths, and all those persons responsible for causing or concealing these deaths.
If you agree to do these three things, further protests will not be necessary. This matter is now in your hands.
I offer my prayers to you, and commend this matter to your conscience and Creator. I look forward to your written reply no later than 9 am on November 6, 2011. In the absence of your reply, our occupations will continue, and will extend to other communities.
Sincerely,
Rev. Kevin D. Annett (Eagle Strong Voice), M.A., M.Div.
